On International Heart Day, the CardioStrike consortium is drawing attention to the importance of cardiovascular health, taking inspiration from a striking social media campaign by Motorola. The image, which features an open flip phone displaying a heart symbol, serves as a symbolic prompt to reflect on the signals our own hearts may be sending us.
This timely reminder aligns closely with the mission of the CardioStrike project, an Erasmus+ initiative focused on promoting cardiovascular health, improving physical activity levels, and supporting adults who are at risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The project advocates for early prevention, increased awareness, and accessible opportunities for physical activity.
According to the CardioStrike partners, the message conveyed across social media today reinforces a key idea central to their work: individuals should not overlook early indicators related to their heart health. Proactive monitoring, lifestyle adjustments, and access to appropriate health information play a critical role in reducing cardiovascular risks.
CardioStrike operates across Greece, North Macedonia, and Cyprus, offering a holistic approach to prevention that integrates inclusive martial arts training, mental health support, and health education. The project seeks to make physical activity accessible to a wider population, particularly individuals who may feel hesitant, excluded, or insecure about participating in sports due to weight-related concerns or existing health conditions.
The project’s resources include an online Wellness Hub, a set of educational videos, and specialised training for martial arts instructors. These outputs aim to empower both professionals and citizens with reliable, practical tools for improving physical and mental well-being.
On this international awareness day, CardioStrike encourages organisations, sport clubs, community groups, and individuals to reflect on their cardiovascular health and to take meaningful steps toward prevention. Actions such as regular medical check-ups, engaging in structured physical activity, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle contribute significantly to reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases.
CardioStrike partners also highlight the importance of fostering inclusive environments in community sports. Ensuring that people of varying abilities and health backgrounds feel welcome and supported is essential for encouraging consistent and safe participation.
